Hardware Overview
Modular Magnetic Hardware
PomeConnect hardware modules connect magnetically — no wires or breadboards are required. Each module is clearly labeled with its name and function (e.g., Resistor, AND Gate, Op-Amp), allowing for easy identification and instruction.
The Master Module serves as the central unit that powers the circuit and handles communication with the PomeConnect app. It connects to a computer or tablet via USB/USB-C cable. All other modules receive power and data through magnetic connections to the Master or neighboring modules.
Fault-Tolerant Design
PomeConnect is built to withstand common user errors, making it safe for beginners and reliable for classrooms. Internal protections prevent hardware damage from incorrect usage.
Short Circuit Protection
- The system automatically cuts power to the circuit to prevent damage
- A visual alert (LED signal) notifies users of the issue
Additional Safeguards
- Incorrect module orientation
- Invalid module combinations
- Overloading or conflicting signal paths
This fault-tolerant approach encourages experimentation and learning without fear of breaking equipment.
Reusable & Classroom-Ready
PomeConnect modules are built for the demands of real educational environments. Each module is constructed from durable materials and designed to withstand repeated handling, making them suitable for daily classroom use over multiple academic years.
Key Features
- Robust and impact-resistant design for safe use by learners of all skill levels
- Compact and portable for easy deployment in both fixed labs and mobile teaching spaces
- Intuitive magnetic design for quick setup and teardown
- Supports both individual experimentation and team-based collaboration
The system is ideal for:
- Classroom integration
- Learner-centered learning
- Workshops
- Lab-based assessments
Troubleshooting
If you're having issues using the PomeConnect system, this section will help you identify and resolve the most common problems. Follow the steps below based on the symptoms you encounter.
Electrical Connection Issues
If the hardware modules don't seem to respond:
-
Check the physical connections between modules. Ensure they are properly aligned — magnetic contact should be firm but not forced.
-
Verify power status: Each module has a small status LED in the top-left corner. These should all be lit white when connected correctly and powered through the Master Module.
If one or more LEDs are off or flickering:
- Disconnect and reconnect the modules carefully
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected between the Master Module and your computer or tablet
- Try using a different USB port, especially if the current one is shared or unstable
- If none of the modules light up, try switching the USB cable or testing with another computer to isolate the issue
⚠️ Only the Master Module connects via USB. All others receive power through the magnetic circuit.
Browser Detection Problems
If the app doesn't detect your hardware or can't start an activity:
- Ensure you're using a Chromium-based browser like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Brave, and that it's up to date.
- Make sure your Master Module is connected.
Still not working?
- Try refreshing the app tab
- If needed, fully restart your browser and reconnect your Master module
🚫 Safari and Firefox are not supported for hardware use.
Still stuck?
If you've tried the above and your system still isn't responding as expected:
- Reach out to your educator or lab supervisor for assistance
- If the issue appears to be hardware-related, your educator may escalate it to PomeLabs support for further help
